The need for establishing a Mar Thoma Church in Bangalore North was discussed in 1990 at a joint session of the Executive Committee of all the three Mar Thoma Parishes in existence at that time. The then Diocesan Bishop, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa was kind enough to permit the formation of Bangalore North congregation. Consequently a chapel was constructed and worship services were started. The congregation was raised to parish status on August 1st, 1991.
As the chapel became insufficient, a plan was sanctioned to construct a church building with a basement. His Lordship the Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa laid the foundation stone on May 8th, 1992. He dedicated the basement upon its completion for Worship Service on 8th May 1993.
The dedication of the present church building above the basement was solemnized on May 21st, 1994 by His Grace the most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitan in the presence of His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Suffergan Metropolitan, His Lordship the Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Themotheos and several Achens and believers of Mar Thoma parishes in and around Bangalore. The Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church takes this opportunity to remember with gratitude all the then Vicars and members of the Bangalore Parishes, for building up the church.
